The metals we work with

PMF Metalwork specialise in fabrications manufactured from mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass - we also take on projects in bronze, pewter, zinc and copper. Sometimes we combine metals with other materials to delight you and your clients.

Common questions

Which metal should I choose for an outdoor project?

It depends on how much maintenance you want to do. Marine-grade stainless steel and aluminium both resist corrosion with little upkeep. Corten and copper are designed to weather - developing a rust-like patina or verdigris over time - so they need no protective finish at all. Mild steel can also be used outdoors, but needs a suitable coating.

What's the difference between mild steel and stainless steel?

Mild steel is more cost-effective and highly versatile, but will rust if left unprotected. Stainless steel costs more but resists corrosion without additional finishing, making it better suited to bathrooms, kitchens, coastal locations and other demanding environments.

Do you work on residential projects, or only commercial?

Both. We take on everything from single bespoke pieces for private homes - staircases, balustrades, garden structures - through to larger commercial and architectural commissions.
