From our workshop in Newhaven, East Sussex, we fabricate stainless steel for architectural, commercial, marine, and bespoke projects across Sussex and beyond.

We work in both 304 and 316 marine-grade stainless steel, creating everything from furniture and architectural features to one-off bespoke pieces. Each project is fabricated to suit its setting, with a wide range of finishes available.

Choosing the right stainless steel for your project

The grade of stainless steel we use depends on where and how your finished piece will be used. The most common are grade 304 (for internal use) and grade 316, commonly known as marine grade (for external use). There are other grades available which are used for more specialist metalwork projects.

Stainless steel doesn’t stain, corrode, or rust as easily as mild steel, although it’s not stain-proof. Its strength, corrosion resistance and range of surface finishes make it a versatile choice for many different environments.

The difference between stainless and mild steel lies partly in the amount of chromium present. Unprotected mild steel rusts readily when exposed to air and moisture. Stainless steel contains enough chromium to form a passive film of chromium oxide, which helps to prevent further surface corrosion.

At our Sussex workshop, we select the grade and finish to suit the project, whether the finished piece will be indoors, outdoors or somewhere more exposed to the elements, including marine applications such as handrails for boats.
