ABOUT US
John Pomfrey worked at the Phoenix Ironworks Lewes in the 1960-70s, and then for metal fabricators in Newhaven, before starting Pomfrey Metal Fabrications on the Quarry Estate in 1991. His son Matt completed an injection mold toolmaking apprenticeship in 1997, and joined him in 2000. Matt learnt to work to less than 1/4 hair's breadth tolerances, and has since built the kind of instinct for metal that only comes from working with it for decades.
John passed the business to Matt in 2012, and thirty five years on from our beginnings, that same care shows up in everything we make: from general fabrication, to sheet metalwork and architectural metalwork, built for architects, designers and private clients across Sussex and beyond.
Every project begins with a conversation - what you're trying to achieve, the space it needs to work in, how it needs to perform over time. From there we design, fabricate in our Newhaven workshop, and finish to whatever the piece calls for: a mirror polish, a powder coat, or a patina left to develop on its own. Many of our clients come back to us project after project, which is something we're genuinely proud of.
We're known for doing careful work and sticking to the schedules we quote. Getting the design right early - before anything's cut - is where we add the most value, and it's usually what saves a project time and money down the line.
